Our Rental Philosophy

At Gravity Nelson, we only rent out mountain bikes that we would personally want to ride. Simple.

We want you to finish your ride raving that our bike felt better than your own – and maybe even be inspired to buy one from the brands we sell: Santa Cruz, Transition, Evil, and Mondraker.

If you rent a bike and then decide to buy the same model from us, we will discount the full rental price off the purchase. That turns your rental into a proper demo ride.

Our Fleet: Acoustic and Electric

We carry both acoustic (standard) and electric mountain bikes in a range of sizes and suspension travel options. Every bike is set up to your preference – suspension pressure, rebound, and brake side all adjusted for your weight and riding style.

All our bikes run Nelson-specific tyres and tubeless sealant. They are also fully Gorge Ready – meaning if your own bike isn’t quite up to a day at the Wairoa Gorge Mountain Bike Park, rent one of ours and ride with confidence.

A Critical Safety Note: Brake Setup

Unlike most New Zealand rental businesses, we swap brake levers to match what you are used to.

Here is the reality: most European, American, and Canadian riders expect the left hand to control the front brake. In New Zealand, Australia, and England, bikes are usually set up with the front brake on the right.

Mixing that up in an emergency can send you over the bars. So we ask which side you want, and we swap the brakes before you ride. No extra charge. No surprises.

All our bikes are not only specifically set up for Nelson’s great trails with appropriate tires, tubeless fluid, and Cushcore in the rear, but they are also “Gorge Ready”, so if your own bike isn’t quite up to smashing out a day at the Wairoa Gorge Mountain Bike Park, contact us and beat up one of our mountain bikes instead!

• Free helmet and knee pads on request

• Pump, tools, and spare inner tube available

• Basic setup and fit adjustments before you leave the shop

• Local trail advice and you can photograph our maps

Rental Durations and Discounts

We offer half-day, full-day, and multi-day rentals.

Multi-day hires come with significant discounts off the daily rate – perfect for tackling the Old Ghost Road, the Heaphy Track, or simply working your way through the 400+ kilometres of singletrack within 45 minutes of Nelson city centre.
