“We will go even if you are the only one” is Gravity Nelson’s slogan for its Guided Orientation Rides.
The Codgers, Fringe Hill, and Sharlands ride hubs in Nelson provide a fantastic range of trails for mountain bike riders of many levels. However the layout and grading of the trails, the basic nature of the signage, and the less than obvious layout of connecting routes can be confusing to people new to the area. Even with maps or Trailforks it can be hard to pick the best loops of trails for a given level of ability.
Gravity Nelson Ltd offers Guided “Orientation Rides” which are aimed at introducing riders new to Nelson to the range of rides in the area for their level. The ride itself will consist of a custom curated loop of 2-3 trails depending on the riders’ level over the course of several hours. The emphasis is on pointing out and talking about other rides, loops and connections. The objective at the end of the ride is not only that the rider has a great time, but also that they would subsequently be able to ride in the area confident of their navigation in that hub.
For those riding from the Gravity Nelson bike shop at 140 Bridge st, the standard format of the Guided Orientation Ride is as follows.
Beginner: Recommended ride – Codgers entrance, Dun mountain trail, pipeline, jacks track, middle road to Fireball skid, Firball trig climbing track, Firball.
Intermediate: Recommended ride – Codgers entrance, dun mountain trail, pipeline, jacks track, middle road to Fireball skid, Turners, Takeme2YourLeader, beer bottle to picnic table, Top Dog, climb back to fireball skid, Hulknhogan, lower Firball.
