Nelson is Truly Blessed for Mountain Biking
With over 400kms of single-track mountain bike trails within 45 minutes drive of the center of town, including 7 different ride hubs each with their own unique style of riding, Nelson is truly blessed for mountain biking. This massive selection of trails can however be overwhelming for visitors, either because of the difficulty of selecting the best trails to ride, or for the various logistics of accessing the trails and maximising the number of trials you can ride. Nelson’s ride centers are not open to public shuttles (with the exception of a sneaky shuttle up the back of Kaiteriteri mountain bike park) and many of the climbs in the different ride centers are 500+m of vertical elevation gain.
Visitors to the region (and those who live here) quickly learn that maximising the amount of riding either requires amazing fitness, an electric mountain bike, or perhaps clever use of several of the shuttle services available in the region. Specifically, the Wairoa Gorge Mountain Bike Park has shuttles run by the Nelson Mountain Bike Club, and the Cable Bay Adventure Park has occasional casual shuttles to 1/3rd of the way up the park and private shuttles available to book. However in both instances you need to transfer yourself to the park and fit in with their schedule and they don’t offer services every day. All of the other mountain bike parks in the region do not have their own mountain bike shuttle services and require concessions to access the area. Fortunately Gravity Nelson has gone to the trouble of obtaining concessions to shuttle in ALL of these Mountain Bike Parks and as such can be seen as a one-stop shop for shuttling mountain bike trails in Nelson, with the added advantage of being able to transport you to and from the different ride hubs as well.
